Frequently asked questions.

Pricing and subscription

  • Yes, you can use Skouta on a free plan. The core alerts feed — police, weather, transport, traffic and civil emergencies — is free and always will be. Skouta Premium adds personalization: multiple saved locations, filtered notifications and the Daily Digest. Every new user starts with 14 days of Premium, no card needed and no strings attached.

  • Skouta Free gives you the full alerts feed for one city — every category, always free. With Skouta Premium you can track up to 5 locations, use filtered notifications, and get your custom Daily Digest every morning.

  • Your alerts feed stays completely free, but you'll no longer have the option to filter them by source and save custom filters.

You'll only track 1 city or address.

Your Daily Digest is stopped but you can still see your previous summaries.

You'll continue to receive push notifications, but only for critical events in your area.

  • Yes. You can cancel anytime in your App Store subscription settings. Once you cancel, your Skouta Premium benefits will still be active until the last day of your remaining subscription cycle — at the end of month or year, depending on your subscription type. After that you're automatically switched to Skouta Free, so you can still access the alerts feed for 1 location.

  • Refunds for App Store subscriptions are handled directly by Apple, not Skouta. You can request one through your Apple ID purchase history. All payments go through Apple's billing system, so Skouta doesn't have a separate refund process.

  • Yes, you can set custom notifications by category on Skouta Premium — so you only hear about what matters to you.

On Skouta Free, you only receive critical notifications for your chosen city or address. Either way, you'll never be notified about anything outside the categories Skouta covers.

  • On Skouta Free, you can track 1 location — either a city or an address of your choice.

On Skouta Premium, you can track up to 5 cities or specific locations, like your home, office, your kids' school, summer house or anywhere else that matters.

  • Yes, on Skouta Premium. As a subscriber, your Daily Digest displays alerts from the past 7 days. Skouta Free only shows current alerts.

Privacy and data

  • No, we don't track your location. Skouta only uses the city or address you select to show your alerts in that area.

Live location isn't currently a feature in Skouta. If we ever decide to implement it, activating it will require your clear consent.

  • Your Skouta account stores your chosen location, language, notification settings, subscription type, and email — nothing more. Each type of data related to your account is used for honest reasons: either to provide you with a relevant experience, tailored to your preferences, or to contact you with the type of content you consent to (notifications or emails).

All our technical providers are based in the EU and/or comply with the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.

  • No. Each Skouta account is tied to one person's chosen location, language, and notification preferences, so sharing one account would mean sharing someone else's settings too. If your friends or relatives want to try Skouta, they can download it and set up their own account in less than a minute.

Alert sources and accuracy

  • Every alert comes directly from an official Swedish authority: Swedish police, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, Trafikverket, Stockholm Länstrafik, the Swedish Civil Defense and Resilience Agency and others. Every alert mentions the original Swedish-language source so you can check it yourself.

  • Translations are provided by DeepL AI, the best-rated translation service for European languages and Nordic languages in particular. Reports claim a 95% accuracy for most content types. We also maintain a glossary of terms to keep recurring phrases consistent.

Every alert mentions our use of AI translations, for transparency. If you notice errors in translations, please share your findings with us at team@skouta.app.

  • Yes. Every alert in Skouta mentions its original Swedish-language source, whether that's polisen.se, SMHI, Trafikverket or another official agency. You can always check their website for the original alert.

We always translate as close to the source as possible and never editorialize.

  • Yes. Skouta checks all our sources continuously, 24/7, and adds new alerts to your feed within moments of their original publication. Any delay between the exact time of an event occurring and the alert in Skouta is caused solely by when the respective authority decides to publish the update.

  • Skouta continuously checks for updates from all our sources. Some sources are polled every few minutes, while others are checked several times per hour. The moment an official source publishes something new, Skouta picks it up — whether it's a new alert or an update to a previous report.

  • No. Skouta is an independent product built by two private individuals. We collect, translate and make public information available in a centralized and easy-to-use format.

All alerts and information provided in Skouta is sourced from Swedish public authorities but we have no formal affiliation with any of them, and we never claim otherwise.

  • Yes. All of Skouta's data sources — Swedish police, SMHI, Trafikverket, SL, MSB and others — publish their data under open government data licenses that permit this kind of reuse.

We confirm license terms before adding any new source.

  • Minor events are lower-impact notices, like a localized road closure.

Important events are significant but not immediately dangerous, like a major transport disruption.

Critical events involve a direct, immediate risk, and Skouta will say so clearly.

Whenever available, we use the original source's classification of the event.

Coverage and what's next

  • All of Sweden. The availability of alerts is only limited by the coverage of our data sources (public authorities).

You can filter alerts by city or by county (län) — Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, or anywhere else you live.

  • Not yet. However, Norway is Skouta's next destination, with plans to expand to all the Nordics — the app is already built to support it.

If you'd like to see Skouta in an area we don't cover, let us know with a message at team@skouta.app. Your suggestion will help us prioritize our efforts.

  • English and Swedish, for now. The language you'll see when you first install Skouta is based on the language you already use on your phone — Swedish on Swedish-language devices and English on all others. You can change this anytime in the Settings section of the app.

Got a suggestion for a new language we should support? Send us a message at team@skouta.app.

  • Skouta is currently available on iOS, with an Android version coming soon!

  • Skouta is built by 2 people, a product designer and a content designer, both expats living in Sweden. We built Skouta because we needed it ourselves, and we use it every day. You can learn more about our journey on the About page.

Reporting and troubleshooting

  • No — for emergencies, always call 112.

    • For healthcare advice: call 1177.
    • For non-urgent police matters: call 114 14.
    • For information about major accidents and crises: call 113 13.

Skouta is for informational purposes only: it tells you what's already been reported so you can plan your actions accordingly. If an alert describes an active danger near you, follow official guidance.

  • No. Skouta doesn't collect user-submitted event reports. If you witness something that needs official attention, contact the right channel directly:

    112 for emergencies,

114 14 for non-urgent police matters, or your municipality for local issues.

Skouta only shows alerts that have already gone through an official source.

  • Right now, the best way is to contact us directly at team@skouta.app. We read every message and use it to improve our glossary and review process.

An in-app report option is planned for our next update.

  • This usually happens when the original source publishes an approximate location, not a precise address. This is common for alerts affecting a broader area, like weather warnings or transport disruptions.

Skouta displays exactly what the alert source provides; we don't estimate or adjust locations ourselves.

  • Not currently. The Daily Digest is designed to be read in the app each morning rather than saved or shared elsewhere. If exporting the digest is something you'd find useful, let us know; it's the kind of feedback that shapes what we build next.

  • You can reach us directly through the Contact form on the About page, or via email at team@skouta.app. We read every message and suggestion and appreciate any feedback that can help us make Skouta better for you.
